SANTA ROSA >> Roseland Prep scored a flurry of goals near the end of the first half and went on to shut out Upper Lake 5-0 in North Central League II girls’ soccer action on Wednesday afternoon in Santa Rosa.
The Knights scored in the first minute of the game and held that 1-0 lead until the 28th minute. They scored four times in an eight-minute span to go up 5-0.
Both defenses played well in the second half, according to Upper Lake coach Mandy Robbins.
Cheyanne Obedoza took over at keeper in the second half for Upper Lake and kept Roseland Prep off the scoreboard with defensive help from teammates Miranda Huntley and Alisha Altamirano.
“The three of them really rocked it on defense,” Robbins said. “My defense actually worked together as a team, which is something we haven’t been doing.”
Roseland Prep finished with 15 shots on goal to Upper Lake’s five.
The Cougars (0-1 league, 0-3 overall) are back in action today when they host Mendocino at 4:30 p.m. It’s the first girls’ soccer game for Mendocino in six years.
Upper Lake’s next league game is Wednesday at home against St. Vincent, also at 4:30 p.m.
