KELSEYVILLE >> Quarterback Logan Barrick passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another on Friday night as the Kelseyville Knights routed the Healdsburg Greyhounds 62-7 in non-league varsity football action at Kelseyville High School.

It was the season opener for the Knights (1-0) and Healdsburg’s second game, but the Greyhounds enjoyed no advantage at all. Instead, they were completely dominated by Kelseyville on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

Kelseyville rushed for 408 yards and seven touchdowns — Dwayne Yiggins and Patrick Mick each had a pair of scores — and Barrick finished with 186 yards passing, including TD strikes of 23 and 48 yards to wide receiver Bryan Carillo, who also kicked six extra points.

“I’m very happy with how we played,” Kelseyville coach Erick Larsen said. “The kids played well together … I really liked it.”

Kelseyville led 20-0 after one quarter and 41-7 at halftime. The game ended with a running clock.

Yiggins finished with 132 yards rushing and another 60 receiving. JD Prescott and Kyle Moore also had rushing touchdowns for the Knights.

“We have some things to work on, like tackling in the open field,” Larsen said with an eye toward Kelseyville’s next two games, North Central League I contests against St. Helena and Middletown.

“Our next two opponents are really tough and we have to be ready.”

In other football action Friday night:

Clear Lake 35, South Fork 0

At Lakeport, the Clear Lake Cardinals made Mark Cory a winner in his head coaching debut and they needed only two quarters to do it as the game was halted at halftime because of multiple injuries on the South Fork sidelines.

“They started with 16 players and were down to 12 at halftime,” Cory said. “They decided it would be better if they stopped because they still have the rest of the season to play.”

Clear Lake quarterback Alex Adams opened the scoring with a 10-yard run and followed that up with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Austin Davis to give the Cardinals a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

Touchdown runs of 5 and 3 yards by Sam Long in the second quarter and a 35-yard interception return by Bobby Gonzalez padded Clear Lake’s lead.

“The kids came out and played well,” Cory said. “They played hard and were excited to win their first game.”

Adams finished with 82 passing yards and another 25 rushing.

“Adams did a great job,” Cory said.

Another standout for the Cardinals was Brandon Orozco, who had a 37-yard catch.

“At wide receiver and in the secondary he played a really good game,” Cory said.

Lower Lake 49, Esparto 12

At Esparto, the Lower Lake Trojans evened their season record at 1-1 with a dominating performance against Esparto (0-2).

Lower Lake quarterback Hokulani Wickard passed for 180 yards and three touchdowns and he also scored the Trojans’ first points on a 26-yard run in the first quarter. Two of Wickard’s TD passes went to Marlon Jones and the other to Ethan Watson. Jones added a third score with a 68-yard punt return.

Lower Lake’s defense also was heard from as the Trojans’ Jermaine Watson returned an interception 15 yards for a score.

The Trojans had more than 300 yards of total offense. Wickard finished 10-for-15.

“Not only was our focus improved (following a season-opening 32-0 loss to De Anza last week) but our execution was there,” Lower Lake coach Justin Gaddy said. “We needed to be aggressive on defense and attack and not let them get any momentum on offense.”

Improved line play on offense also made a big difference, according to Gaddy.

“We moved some people around and did a much better job this week,” he said.

Lower Lake had a 36-6 lead by halftime.

Jones finished with six catches for 124 yards and he also had an interception on defense.

“He just missed taking one all the way back,” Gaddy said.

Eric Egger anchored the defense with nine total tackles while Reed Diener had five and Nick Sani and Jermaine Watson four apiece.
