KELSEYVILLE >> Backup quarterback R.H. Hess completed two touchdown passes to Adrian Villalobos as the Kelseyville Knights fell 35-12 to Clayton Valley Charter School of Concord 35-12 in a non-league junior varsity football game on Friday night at Kelseyville High School.
It was the season opener for the Knights (0-1), who replaced Healdsburg with Clayton Valley Charter School on their week one schedule because Healdsburg did not have enough players to field a JV team.
Clayton Valley suited up 60 players against a Kelseyville team that had to make due without starting quarterback Alex Garcia (arm injury).
The Knights made a game of it for three quarters and trailed only 20-12 entering the fourth quarter.
Hess turned in a strong game in relief of Garcia, going 8-for-12 for 114 yards and the two TDs.
Kelseyville remains at home this Friday to host St. Helena in the North Central League I opener for both teams. The Knights hit the road the following week (Sept. 16) to play at Middletown.
