Middletown High School running back John Kelley (21) topped the century mark with 110 yards on 13 carries, including a 10-yard touchdown run, in the Mustangs’ season-opening 39-19 loss to the Salesian Pride on Friday night at Bill Foltmer Field in Middletown. Middletown faces another difficult assignment on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Walnut Creek to play Berean Christian (1-1). Berean Christian is coming off a 49-39 loss to John F. Kennedy of Fremont, that after beating Cloverdale 48-0 in its opener a week earlier. Middletown lost 49-22 to Berean Christian last year in Middletown, the night before the Valley Fire started.
