EUREKA >> The setting was there and so was the hitting, but Clear Lake’s passing game fell a bit short on Friday night as the Clear Lake Cardinals tangled with the Eureka Loggers in a non-league varsity volleyball match at Eureka.
The Loggers rallied for a 19-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-21 victory, dropping Clear Lake to 2-2 on the season.
“We hit the ball well and (setter) Kylie (Udy) did a good job of getting the ball to the hitters, but she had to run around a lot because our passing wasn’t always good,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said. “We played well but not as well as I would have liked.”
Kiana Richardson and Valerie Hutton powered the Cardinals up front with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Richardson also had 14 digs and Hutton three aces.
Udy, a sophomore and first-year varsity player, had 31 assists to go along with 12 digs.
Both teams are entered in the 16-team Arcata Tournament today.
“Hopefully we can meet them (Loggers) in the championship match,” Psalmonds said.
