KELSEYVILLE >> Adrian Villalobos scored on offense and special teams to start things off, then Robert Chavez applied the knockout punch with three rushing touchdowns as the Kelseyville High School junior varsity football team routed the visiting St. Helena Saints 40-0 on Friday night in the North Central League I opener for both teams.
Villalobos’ rushing score put Kelseyville on the board and when the Knights’ defense forced the Saints to punt away their first possession of the game, Villalobos returned the kick for another touchdown.
Chavez added three more scores as the Knights took a 34-0 lead into halftime, clearing the way for the Kelseyville reserves to take over in the second half.
“St. Helena is kind of down this year to be fair,” Kelseyville coach Jeremy Linnell said. “The nice thing is everyone got to play, everyone got to contribute.” Jordi Lopez anchored the Kelseyville defense with six solo tackles, two of them for losses, and four assists. He also rushed for a Knights touchdown. Joey Mendonca added five solo tackles, three for losses, with two assists.
Now 1-0 in league and 1-1 on the season, the Knights face a tougher test this coming Friday when they travel to Middletown to take on the Mustangs. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. at Bill Foltmer Field.
