What Mac misses
How many people believe that the Axis Powers in WWII were socialists? Even though Socialist is part of the Nazi name Hitler was a dictator. Mussolini? He was a Fascist as well. Hirohito? He was the Emperor of Japan.
So why did Mac McKay say about a WWII vet, “This man helped save America from the grip of Socialism!” (RB 9-10)? Is he truly unaware whom our enemies were during WWII? Does he not understand what type of governments they were? This is the most baffling part of his recent letter.
But, then he goes on his typical misinformation rant concerning various topics. There is a video of Obama on ABC news in which Obama explains how $1.7 Billion was paid to Iran, all in cash. No wire transfer. Where does Mac get his information? And, this was money we have owed the Iranians since the 1970s when we supported the Shah.
So, NOT a ransom!
Apparently, Mac missed my letter (RB 8-24) in which I explained that the transcript of the Gowdy-Comey exchange never mentioned ‘lies’. Gowdy asked if what HRC said was true and Comey said it was not true. The word ‘lie’ was never mentioned. Did O’Reilly say this conversation involved the word lie?
So, in the review of “Killing Reagan” I used the liberal opinions of George Will (a noted liberal thinker?) and George P. Shultz (Secretary of State under Ronald Reagan), another liberal. I suppose factcheck.org and snopes.com are liberal as well? Does this mean that any news organization that doesn’t agree with Mac’s view is ‘far left’?
I saw a list of the White House Press Corps and see the following names: Kevin Corke of FOX News; John Gizzi of Newsmax Media.
Not conservative enough for Mac?
But I do know one thing. Mac will not vote for Trump. If there is one person that lies more than HRC, it is Donald Trump.

Crane agreement protects county taxpayers
I am pleased to report that Lake County and I have reached an agreement to repay taxpayers for the entire $59,000 cost of removing my crane which accidentally sunk into Clear Lake during a major storm in 2011.
This Agreement makes the taxpayers whole and requires me to fully compensate the County for all the expenses it incurred in removing and disposing of the crane. This was a difficult situation and I appreciate the diligence of our County leaders in working to negotiate a tough, but fair, repayment plan.
The accidental sinking of the crane occurred over five years ago and created no safety concerns or negative environmental impacts to the Lake. I transferred ownership of the crane to the County after its removal. The County then received $ 4,000 in revenues for selling the crane as scrap metal.
My Agreement with the County provides a complete repayment for the remaining $55,000.
Most residents of Lakeport were fully aware of this situation when they elected me as their City Councilmember in November of 2012. Unfortunately, that did not stop Supervisor Farrington and his hand-picked replacement candidate from trying to play politics with the Crane Agreement. Hopefully, the repayment plan I’ve signed with the County will put an end to their sorry political attacks.
The Crane Agreement is a financial win for the taxpayers and I thank the citizens of Lake County for your patience and understanding.
Martin Scheel, Lakeport City Councilman
For Rosenthal
I am endorsing Monica Rosenthal for Supervisor, District 1.
I have known Monica for many years and have found her to be an intelligent and thoughtful person. She is forthright and articulate, meaning she can take a complex issue and explain it in plain terms. I also like that she has bottom lines and stands by them.
Being an effective county supervisor means you are representing every one of your constituents with respect for their opinions. This does not mean you have to agree but it does mean you have to listen to all sides of an issue before taking a stance, and Monica does that.
She has broad experience and knowledge of our business community, the foundation of South County. Land use issues affect us emotionally, financially, indirectly or directly. Her understanding of land use and water issues of South County again is grounded in knowledge and experience.
I think she has shown she represents her constituency by her various community involvements over these past 20 years. She is a knowledgeable and strong advocate for South County, and we need that in Lakeport.
I hope you will vote for her in November.
Helen Whitney, Past Supervisor, District 1
