MIDDLETOWN >> Clear Lake scored 25 minutes into the second half to tie Middletown and the teams ended up in a 1-1 draw in North Central League I girls’ soccer action on Tuesday evening at Middletown High School.
Both squads were making their league debut. Middletown, now under the direction of first-year coach Lamont Kucer, is gunning for a ninth consecutive NCL I championship.
“We had a lot of chances, a lot of shots on goal,” Kucer said. “We’re looking forward to playing them again.”
Following a scoreless first half, Middletown’s Courtney Gillies punched a shot into the net 10 minutes into the second half with an assist from Madison Ketchum.
“They’re keeper played well and stopped some nice shots,” Kucer said.
Middletown’s Lucy Schisler also played well in the net.
“I think she did a great job,” Kucer said.
Another standout for Middletown on defense was Julisa Garcia at defensive-mid.
“She controlled the ball, got it to our wingers and did a nice job controlling the middle part of the field,” Kucer said.
Clear Lake scoring was not reported.
Middletown is now 2-3-2 overall.
Both teams return to action Thursday at 4 p.m. Middletown is at Lower Lake while Clear Lake hosts Fort Bragg.
