Lakeport>> The Pacific Chapter of the Neuropathy Association in Lakeport will meet on Sept. 22 from 1:30 p.m. at Lakeport Senior Activity Center, 527 Konocti Ave. The guest speaker this month is Joseph Prisco. He is rehabilitation services director, physical therapist and certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy.
Neuropathy is damage to or disease affecting nerves, which may impair sensation, movement, gland or organ function, or other aspects of health. Common causes include systemic diseases such as diabetes or leprosy, vitamin deficiency, medication, chemotherapy, traumatic injury, immune system disease or viral infection.
The neuropathy association estimates there are more than two million people in California suffering from it. Symptoms of neuropathy includes numbness, tremor, impairment of balance and gait abnormality tingling, pain, muscle twitch and itching. Neuropathic pain is difficult to control and can seriously affect emotional wellbeing and overall quality of life.
Those interested in exploring the ins and outs of neuropathy are welcome to attend these free support group meetings, which are held monthly at Lakeport Senior Activity Center.
