LAKEPORT >> Tianna Jardstrom scored three times and Amelia Perry added a goal and two assists as the Clear Lake Cardinals handled the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 5-1 in North Central League I girls’ soccer action on Thursday at Lakeport.
Clear Lake (1-0-1 league, 4-4-2 overall) took 40 shots on goal to Fort Bragg’s six. The Cardinals led 2-1 at the half and completely dominated the second half, according to head coach Tommy Burke.
“The girls came out really, really fast and played good ball for the first 15-20 minutes, then we went into a little bit of a lull,” Burke said. “But we came out strong again in the second half and really shut them down.”
Carina Martinez also scored for the Cardinals.
M’town 11, Lower Lake 1
At Lower Lake, Middletown emptied its bench early on in a league win over the Lower Lake Trojans. Aly Ferguson and Madison Ketchum scored two goals apiece while seven other players had one each, including keeper Lucy Schisler and freshman Nyla Chaires, who scored the first goals of their high school careers.
Caitlin Lemoine had a goal and four assists for Middletown (1-0-1, 3-3-2).
Hanna Morris made her first start at keeper for the Mustangs.
“And she did a great job,” Middletown coach Lamont Kucer said. “She made some nice saves.”
Boys’ soccer
Fort Bragg 6, Clear Lake 1
At Lakeport, Luis Muniz scored Clear Lake’s lone goal on a penalty kick in the second half in a league loss to the Fort Bragg Timberwolves.
“We did good for the first 12 minutes, then they scored a goal, our heads went down and we played flat,” Clear Lake coach Tony Paskaly said.
Ian Sammel was a standout on defense for the Cardinals (0-1-1, 1-1-2).
Volleyball
Upper Lake def. Tech
At Upper Lake, the Upper Lake Cougars beat Technology in NCL II action, improving to 2-0 in league play and 7-1 overall.
Christina Wilson led the Cougars with seven kills, setter Natalie Karlsson had seven assists and three kills, Brenna Sanchez added four kills and two aces, and Isabel Rorabaugh had three kills and three digs.
Clear Lake def. Fort Bragg
At Fort Bragg, after dropping the first set to the Timberwolves, the Clear Lake Cardinals rallied for a 20-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 league win over Fort Bragg, improving to 2-0 in the NCL I standings in the process.
“They’re sneaky good,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said of the Timberwolves (1-1). “They’ve got two good hitters and a good libero. They’ve got some talent.”
Camille Donald and Valerie Hutton turned in strong performances, according to Psalmonds, each finishing with nine kills.
M’town def. Lower Lake
At Middletown, Middletown jumped out to a big lead but had to hold on for a 25-17, 25-15, 22-25, 19-25, 15-6 league win over the Lower Lake Trojans.
“It was the longest game in history,” Middletown coach Jennifer Breiner said of the marathon five-set match. “We were up, we were down. When we were up we played well.”
Brittney Holt led the Mustangs with 13 aces and tied teammate Olivia Glosser for the team lead in kills with eight. She also had 11 assists.
Middletown is 1-1 in league play while Lower Lake fell to 0-2.
