LOWER LAKE >> Gerardo Rodriguez had two goals while Jose Morales scored on a free kick Thursday as the Lower Lake Trojans blanked the Middletown Mustangs 3-0 in North Central League I boys’ soccer action at Lower Lake.
Oscar Martinez assisted on both Rodriguez goals as Lower Lake improved to 1-0-1 in the league standings.
“He’s a good, good player,” Lower Lake coach Javier Michel said of Rodriguez, who has four goals in the Trojans’ first two league games.
Lower Lake’s defense also came through led by keeper Jose Hernandez, who logged the shutout.
“It was a combination of things,” Michel said when asked about the Trojans’ stingy defense. “We didn’t allow many shots. He (Hernandez) had some nice saves.”
Lower Lake led 1-0 after one half on the strength of Morales’ free kick.
