LAKEPORT >> The Lake County Board of Supervisors will consider the appointment of a new planning commissioner at its regular meeting today.

The discussion will be about the District 3 seat, which was recently vacated by Gladys Rosehill. According to county documents, the region’s supervisor, Jim Steele, nominated Lucerne resident Eddie Crandall, the tribal chair of Robinson Rancheria.

“He’s got a lot of interest in the community, environmental ethics and good land development decisions,” Steele said. “He seems like the perfect person to have on the planning commission.”

Along with leading his tribe, Crandall’s resume also includes a six-year career in the U.S. army and a stint as a compliance director for the California Tribal TANF Partnership.

When asked why he applied for the job, he said he wants to help the county as well.

“I just figured I could be of assistance,” he said. “I want to see it prosper.”

Regarding Rosehill’s resignation, Steele explained that her personal issues forced her to miss too many meetings. In fact, she has missed every commission meeting since early August.

“I really appreciated her service and she did a great job while she was there,” he added.

Her resignation was effective immediately, according to county planning department staff. She was appointed back in 2015.

Gate Fees

The board also plans to hear the final reading of a proposal to increase the cost of fire debris dumping at the Eastlake Landfill.

If the ordinance is passed, the public services department will raise tipping fees for Clayton and Valley fire-related debris to $65 per ton — an approximately $14 bump. Rates per cubic yard would go up from $7.25 to $9.22.

The prices will also be enacted in future disasters.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the Lake County Courthouse.
