MIDDLETOWN >> Kelseyville running backs Adrian Villalobos and Jordi Lopez did a number on the Middletown High School defense on Friday night during a North Central League I junior varsity football game at Bill Foltmer Field.

By the time if was over, the visiting Knights had amassed more than 350 yards of offense while smacking the Mustangs 31-7.

“You go down there and play like that against a well-coached team, you have to like that,” Kelseyville coach Jeremy Linnell said.

The two teams played to a 7-7 tie in the first quarter before Kelseyville (2-0 league, 2-1 overall) took control, outscoring the Mustangs 18-0 in the second quarter for a 25-7 halftime lead.

“We were sleepwalking at the start, but we played pretty good after that,” Linnell said.

Villalobos rushed for 57 yards and three touchdowns while Jordi Lopez piled up 138 yards on 17 carries with one TD. Dylan Mcadon scored the only touchdown of the second half to increase Kelseyville’s lead.

Anchoring the Knights’ solid play on defense were Lukaz Molinero with six solo tackles and four assists, including two tackles for losses, and Roberto Chavez with five tackles and two assists.

Kelseyville returns home this Friday to play Ferndale in a non-league game at 5:30 p.m. The varsity game between Kelseyville and South Fork follows. It’s homecoming for the Knights.

Ferndale scored on the final play of the game a year ago to beat Kelseyville 28-22, the only non-forfeit loss the Knights had a year ago.

Clear Lake 40, St. Vincent 0

At Lakeport, Rodrigo Lupercio rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns while backfield mate Chris White finished with 140 yards — on only four carries — and two two TDs as Clear Lake shut out St.Vincent in NCL I action.

The Cardinals (1-1 league, 2-1 overall) finished with 401 rushing yards and did not attempt a pass.

“We’re working on the passing game this week,” Clear Lake coach Augie Perez said.

Rolando Amaya also had 75 yards rushing and a touchdown as the Cardinals built a 27-0 halftime lead.

The blocking in front of Lupercio, White and Amaya was solid, according to Perez.

“Those five guys (starters) at the beginning of the game were blocking incredibly well and the backups that came in all did great, too,” Perez said.

J.T. Hanson kicked four extra points.

On defense, the Cardinals came up with four sacks — 2 ½ of them by Lupercio and another by T.J. Marcks — two fumble recoveries and an interception.

“Everybody played and everybody played a lot,” Perez said. “Everyone swarmed to the football and our defensive linemen showed up to play.”

Clear Lake hits the road on Friday to take on Willits at 5:30 p.m.
