KELSEYVILLE >> Senior forward Christina Covarrubias was on a bit of a mission Thursday afternoon as the Kelseyville Knights beat the Cloverdale Eagles 4-1 in North Central League I girls’ soccer action at Kelseyville.

“She was mad about St. Helena and wanted to settle the score for herself,” Kelseyville coach Eric Hoefler said.

Kelseyville (2-2 league, 5-3-1 overall) dropped a 4-0 decision to St. Helena on Tuesday, its second straight league loss.

Covarrubias scored Kelseyville’s only goal in the first half, that at the 35th minute, to give the Knights a 1-0 halftime lead. She scored again in the 55th and 79th minutes and also assisted on teammate Sayra Cacho’s goal in the 48th minute.

“She led by example,” Hoefler said.

In other girls’ soccer action Thursday:

M’town 5, Fort Bragg 0

At Fort Bragg, Madison Ketchum and Caitlin Lemoine each had two goals and one assist as the Middletown Mustangs used their team speed to full advantage in shutting out the Fort Bragg Timberwolves.

“Our speed was just a little too much for them,” Middletown coach Lamont Kucer said.

Julisa Garcia had the Mustangs’ other goal and Aly Ferguson had two assists in the win, both times on Ketchum goals.

“Both of Madison’s goals were hard, high shots that the goalkeeper couldn’t have done anything about,” Kucer said.

The Mustangs (3-0-1, 5-3-2) also received strong play on defense from Gracie Armstrong, Kassi Agapoff and keeper Lucy Schisler.

At Willits, Clear Lake let a 3-1 first-half lead slip away to the Willits Wolverines, who struck for four goals in the second half to win it.
