KELSEYVILLE >> Jordi Lopez rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns while teammate Adrian Villalobos scored twice — once on offense and again on defense — to lead the Kelseyville High School junior varsity football team to a 35-8 homecoming victory over the Ferndale Wildcats on Friday night at Kelseyville.
Villalobos finished with 137 yards rushing on only five carries with one touchdown. On defense, he returned an interception 55 yards for another score as the Knights improved to 3-1 on the season with the non-league win. They also avenged a loss to Ferndale last season.
“It was another good game for us,” Kelseyville coach Jeremy Linnell said. “I’m very happy.”
The Knights ran the ball at will against the Ferndale defense, rolling up 406 yards on the ground.
Zack Watkins anchored the Kelseyville defense with seven solo stops and two assists. He also had an interception.
Kelseyville resumes its league schedule on Friday night in Cloverdale at 5:30 p.m. The Knights are 2-0 in the North Central League I standings.
In other JV football action Friday:
Cle. Lake 39, Willits 8
At Willits, in a game that was just 6-0 Clear Lake at the half, the Cardinals turned it up a notch or two on both offense and defense and rolled past the Willits Wolverines in NCL I action.
“We started slow, but in the second half we had over 200 yards of rushing,” Clear Lake coach Augie Perez said. “Our offensive line got after it in the second half and our defensive line picked it up, too.”
Rodrigo Lupercio rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns while Chris White had 91 yards and three touchdowns to spearhead Clear Lake’s offense. Rolando Amaya added 66 yards and a score.
Clear Lake’s ball-hawking defense forced seven turnovers, most of those coming in the second half. Standouts were Lupercio with two sacks and a fumble recovery; White with one sack and a fumble recovery; and Sterling Wong and Erik Nelson, each with fumble recoveries. Amaya, Augustine Vega and Chance Durnal picked off Willits passes.
Now 2-1 in league play and 3-1 overall, the Cardinals return to action Friday night with a non-league home game against Berean Christian of Walnut Creek.
