LUCERNE >> A Eureka woman suffered major injuries early Saturday morning during a rollover on Highway 20 near Lucerne.
According to California Highway Patrol officer Ryan Erickson, Tara Olivo, 38, was driving west approaching the community when her minivan slipped off the right shoulder of the road. She apparently lost control on the dirt and rock surface, causing the vehicle to roll several times.
The incident occurred just before 2 a.m.
“Speed appears to be a contributing factor to the collision,” Erickson reported. “It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor.”
Investigators have yet to determine Olivo’s speed at the time she lost control. Erickson did point out that she was wearing a safety belt.
Responders considered her injuries severe, though not life threatening. Olivo was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital by REACH helicopter.
