What is real

I recently noticed a statement which seemed to summarize the evolution of the Democrat party;

“John Fitzgerald Kennedy set out to put men on the moon, while Barrack Hussein Obama set out to put men in women’s bathrooms”.

Not to mention rioters in the streets, open borders, billions of American taxpayer dollars in the hands of Iranians for weapons development and nuclear missiles pointed at the United States!

With this in mind long time Democrats should consider deep introspection into what is real and what only appears to be real and vote for Donald J. Trump.

Now that is real.

A great time

Great experience for our Lake County Native Daughters of the Golden West, Lupoyoma Parlor # 329 at the Kelseyville Pear Festival. We had booth #159 where we distributed almost 100 Children’s ID Kits donated to us by the Polly Klass Foundation.

We want to sincerely thank our local business community and individuals for your generous donations to make our baskets very special. The firewood donation was a great addition to our drawing. Congratulations to the winners of our 8 beautiful baskets and the winner of the cord of Walnut firewood. Our sales of raffle tickets were terrific thanks to our generous community and their support of our organization.

The Lake County Native Daughters of the Golden West look forward to the next opportunity to participate in a community event. Thank you for your generous support.

Issues to Consider for Lakeport City Council Candidates

While you and I are busy dodging potholes and praying that Lakeport schools and our homes don’t fall victim to the next catastrophic wildfire, the Lakeport City Council has deleted road maintenance from its budget and has finally taken some belated and feeble steps to abate weeds that abut our schools and many of our homes.

However, it is now time to evaluate the five new candidates who have stepped forward to lead Lakeport to a better future. In my humble opinion, there are four issues that have been bungled by the existing city council, and we should attempt to learn how the new candidates plan to get Lakeport headed in the right direction.

The first is our sky high utility rates that were pushed through over hundreds of written protests and have turned the city brown. The city claimed there were urgent problems that needed to be fixed and promptly spent a million dollars on new water meters. They now want to spend three million on a new solar system that the Lakeport schools acquired for zero dollars out of pocket having carefully chosen a better plan.

The city is clearly spending our hard earned money on unnecessary projects. Our garbage rates are several dollars a month higher than the same service offered outside the city. Which candidate is willing to reexamine and reduce our excessive rates or get a new garbage hauler?

Second, South Main annexation: while the city has dozens of vacant store fronts and three half empty shopping centers, the city aggressively pursues the annexation of South Main which is clearly not needed. Most of the property owners do not want to be subject to the City’s excessive utility rates and heavy handed regulations. While our yards whither under high water rates and we are told to conserve, the City plans to use $800,000 of your water rate money to build a free water line to the South Main folks.

This is just another example of our hard earned money being drained out of our pockets and the local economy on unnecessary projects. Where do the new candidates stand on the waste of our money and the unneeded annexation?

Third, Weed Abatement: The City historically had a well-run and effective weed abatement program. The existing City Council has dropped the ball and is gambling with our lives and property with its belated actions. Which new candidates are willing to get the old program up and running again?

Fourth, Three Minute Shut-up and Sit Down Rule: The City Council restricts all public speakers on all agenda items to three minutes. They don’t care how much you know or how little they know. They don’t want to hear too much from you.

This contrasts with the County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission which usually allow people to speak on agenda topics as long as needed. Which candidates are willing to change this “Sit down and shut up rule”?

Let’s all now do our homework and figure out which of the new candidates will lead us in a better direction.

Scheel Shows Leadership

As a Retired Fire Battalion Chief and local Fire Board Member, I’m proud to support Martin Scheel for Lake County Supervisor in District 4.

I watched Martin’s active involvement during last year’s Valley Fire. He was there on the scene during the earliest hours of the Fire. Martin went above and beyond the call of duty to protect the safety of local residents and keep people out of harm’s way.

Last month, Martin demonstrated his hands-on leadership approach once again by helping to expedite emergency response at a deadly Senior Housing fire in Lakeport.

The level of dedication that Martin Scheel has shown in emergency situations is what makes him the best choice for County Supervisor. He’s been tested and has the experience to be an effective County Supervisor from his very first day on the job.

Please join with me in voting for Martin Scheel for Lake County Supervisor.

Jim Comisky, President, Board of Directors, South Lake County Fire District
