LAKEPORT >> The Lake Area Rotary Club Association(LARCA) will present $25,000 check to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at the board of supervisors’ regular meeting on Tuesday.
The money is intended for the purchase of Nomex fire protection suits so law enforcement personnel can be safe during a wildfire. According to county documents, the suits are resistant to melting and have features for high visibility during smoky conditions.
“These suits will be issued to deputy sheriffs who are more frequently called upon to assist with evacuations during wildfires,” Sheriff Brian Martin said. “This type of equipment has not been budgeted for, and the generous donation will make the purchase possible.”
Created in the wake of the Valley Fire, LARCA has raised more than $750,000 for it is fire relief fund as of May 15, its website said. It recently gave $10,000 for the sheriff’s office to purchase peer counseling training.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
