CLOVERDALE >> The Kelseyville Knights picked up their first road victory of the season Friday night, clobbering the Cloverdale Eagles 32-13 in North Central League I varsity football action.
“We played better on the road this time, but we still have some things to work on,” Kelseyville coach Erick Larsen said. “For the number of kids we had out of position (because of injury), it worked out.”
Middle linebacker J.D. Prescott anchored a strong effort by a Kelseyville defense that forced eight turnovers and had six sacks. Prescott was credited with 18 solo tackles, four assists, one sack and three fumble recoveries.
“He played an amazing game,” Larsen said. “He brought the matches to this bonfire.”
Kelseyville had a 26-7 lead by halftime on the strength of 1-yard touchdown runs by Dwayne Yiggins and Bryan Carillo, and 9- and 5-yard touchdown passes from Logan Barrick to Gideon Turner.
Carillo scored on a 12-yard run in the fourth quarter for Kelseyville’s final points.
“Cloverdale loaded up the box against us but Logan had a good night in the air,” Larsen said of his senior quarterback.
Barrick went 7-for-12 for 85 yards. Yiggins and Carillo were Kelseyville’s workhorses on the ground. Yiggins had 61 yards on 13 carries and Carillo 88 yards on 12 carries.
Cloverdale is now 1-3 in league play.
