LAKEPORT >> Kashi Shivada Arbeeny’s case will head to a preliminary examination after a recent hearing.

Arbeeny is charged with evading a peace officer, fleeing a peace officer, vehicle theft and four other charges, including probation violation, all stemming from a high speed chase on Sept. 9.

Authorities say Arbeeny hit the gas when Clearlake Police officer Matthew Huot tried to conduct a traffic stop for a minor violation. Other CPD officers and deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined the chase and brought Arbeeny to a stop at Boyles and 37th Ave.

Officers removed Arbeeny from the vehicle and placed him under arrest. A passenger, Don Presler of Nice, had an outstanding warrant for Mendocino County traffic violations and was also placed under arrest.

A records check revealed the car had been reported stolen from Middletown. Investigators determined that Presler was not involved in the theft.

Huot initially attempted to pull the car over after noticing a tail light out.

Judge Stephen Hedstrom presided over the hearing and Deputy District Attorney John DeChaine was present in court as well.

At the request of counsel, this matter is set for preliminary examination on Oct. 11 at 8:15 a.m. in Department Three. The defendant is ordered to be present.
