LAKEPORT >> Derrick Kyle Schuleter, 24, was present in court and in custody with Defense Attorney Christina DiEdoardo for the Receipt of Dr. Apostle’s Report hearing.

The Court has received the report from Dr. Apostle, dated Sept. 12, with the report being marked as People’s exhibit 1 and received into evidence. A copy of the report is provided to Ms. DiEdoardo and the Court has read and considered the report. Both sides rest, and the matter is submitted on the report.

Schuleter is charged with Theft of On-Call Emergency Vehicle, Vandalism, and four counts of Buying, Receiving or Selling Stolen Property.

The incident occurred on July 29 as firefighters quelled a morning blaze off 18th Ave. in Clearlake. According to reports, an unauthorized man was using the emergency radio in the medic unit. Firefighters then discovered an ambulance parked near the scene of the fire was missing.

Officers traced the ambulance using a cell phone left inside the vehicle by one of the firefighters.

Lake County Fire Protection District Chief Willie Sapeta and Clearlake Police Detective Elvis Cook quickly located the ambulance, badly damaged, on Morgan Valley Road.

Schuleter was picked up near the ambulance with items from the ambulance in his possession, and he allegedly admitted to the theft.

Judge Stephen Hedstrom presided over the Receipt of Dr. Apostle’s Report hearing, while Deputy District Attorney Rachel Abelson was present in court as well.

This matter is referred to the Regional Center pursuant to PC1370.1 for a placement recommendation as the defendant has a developmental disability.

This matter is continued for Placement Hearing PC1370.1 on Oct. 18 at 8:15 a.m. in Department Four, and Schuleter is ordered to be present.
