LAKEPORT >> Robert Lyle McGrew, 30, appeared at his Arraignment Hearing, after failing to show for his previously scheduled hearing. After the no show, the court issued a bench warrant in the amount of $10,000.
The court appointed Siena Kautz to represent the defendant. McGrew entered a plea of not guilty to all counts.
McGrew is charged with Driving on Suspended/Revoked License (DUI), Failing to Provide Evidence of Financial Responsibility and a Violation of Probation involving a prior Driving on Suspended/Revoked (DUI) in which McGrew was convicted on Feb. 29.
In July Lakeport police arrested McGrew after they discovered alleged burglary tools in his vehicle during a traffic stop. The Clearlake resident was reportedly driving through a neighborhood slowly without using headlights just before midnight.
According to Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen, officers discovered McGrew was driving on a suspended license and had multiple priors for the same violation. Officers conducted an inventory search and allegedly found several items of contraband, including three glass methamphetamine smoking pipes and 0.3 grams of methamphetamine.
The search also found suspicious tools, including shaved keys, lock picks and punches, flashlights, pliers, torches, a drill and a CO2 BB gun which resembled a revolver.
Rasmussen indicated that the discovered items are typically used in burglaries.
McGrew was placed into police custody and transported to the Lake County Correctional Facility where he later bailed out and failed to appear at his first scheduled Arraignment Hearing.
Judge Michael Lunas presided over the second scheduled Arraignment Hearing as Deputy District Attorney Daniel Flesch was present in court as well.
The Setting of the Jury Trial Hearing is continued to Oct. 24 at 8:15 a.m. in Department One with McGrew ordered to be present.
The warrant has been recalled, and McGrew was released on his written promise to appear.
