Kelseyville >> On Saturday at 2 p.m. the Clear Lake State Park Interpretive Association’s (CLSPIA) Speaker Series continues with Robert Keiffer’s presentation on Outlandish Undesirable Critters that Hurt, or simply “OUCH,” in the visitor center.
Keiffer, who was born and raised in Mendocino County, has had a long-time interest in wildlife dating back to his youth when he and his friends would explore the Russian River near his home. Keiffer followed his interest in wildlife by obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife management from Humboldt State University in 1979 and becoming a certified Associate Wildlife Biologist with the Wildlife Society.
After graduating from Humboldt State University he worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District and spent the last 31 years of his career with the University of California Hopland Research and Extension Center (UC HREC) (now retired) as the principal superintendent of agriculture.
Working over the years with UC researchers brought to light many relatively unknown insects and animals that can directly or indirectly harm humans. This program, originally developed for safety training of Mendocino County Search and Rescue, introduces the viewer to OUCH in Lake and Mendocino counties.
Clear Lake State Park is located at 5300 Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville, and entry into the park is free for those participating in the presentation.
Anyone having special needs should contact the Clear Lake State Park Sector Office Tuesday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at (707) 279-2267.
