LAKEPORT >> First responders and emergency medical care are always a 911 call away. But as everyone knows, the best offense is a good defense. At this Saturday’s third annual Heroes of Health and Safety Fair, over 80 local health and safety agencies will be on hand sharing lifesaving information and services to prevent the need for emergency care by keeping Lake County residents of all ages healthy.

The free, family-friendly event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin Street in Lakeport. The Heroes of Health and Safety Fair will feature interactive demonstrations, free health screenings, giveaways and activities for the whole family. Children can bring their bikes to enjoy the course or receive a free bike tune-up. Bike raffles throughout the day and free bike helmet giveaways make this fun outdoor activity accessible to more kids.

Sponsors include the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, Sutter Lakeside Hospital, California Highway Patrol, St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake, Lake County Tribal Health, Lakeview Health Center, Lake Family Resource Center, Hospice Services of Lake County, American Red Cross, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lake County Office of Education, The Hero Project, Lake County Public Health and Lake County Behavioral Health Services.

“Keeping Lake County families healthy and safe is our focus,” said Allison Panella, who leads the organizing committee. “The Heroes of Health and Safety Fair gathers an incredible number of services in one place so families can get important information, screenings and lifesaving tools, all while having a lot of fun.”

A special feature of the 2016 Heroes of Health and Safety Fair will be a seminar on the “Healing Power of Humor” international speaker and Jollytologist, Allen Klein, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
