LAKEPORT >> The Lake County Planning Commission expects to continue its discussion on the state’s proposed changes to medical marijuana legislation at its meeting today.
Jumping off from their first meeting on the subject in September, which primarily centered around boundary maps, the focus this time will be geared towards indoor cultivation standards, patient and qualified caregiver guidelines and district regulation for outdoor growing and nurseries.
County documents released earlier this week show that most of the proposed rules are brief — except for those concerning cultivation sites. In fact, that document is nearly 19 pages long, covering everything from the application process to instructions on a management plan.
Along with the documents, a chart was released that detailed what kind of permit — if allowed — is needed for each zoning district. According to the graphic, most commercial areas (resort, local, community and highway) will be prohibited from cultivating weed. Residential zones are also restricted with the exclusion of personal cultivation.
The agenda item is scheduled for 11 p.m. or when the previous item is completed. Neither Community Development Director Bob Massarelli nor commission chair/District 1 commissioner Joe Sullivan could be reached for comment.

Before the marijuana discussion, the commission will also hold its third public hearing on the proposed of expansion of Wild Diamond Vineyards’ property in Hidden Valley Lake.
The item will specifically pertain to the Hidden Valley Lake development’s Final Environmental Impact Report. As it did in two prior meetings with the first draft, the commission will primarily listen to citizen input, which it’ll consider for its conclusive decision at a later time.
Driven by concerns over the region’s biology and watershed, the hearings so far have been long and filled with comments from nearby residents and experts alike.
The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Multiple calls to the Lake County planning department for more information were not returned.
