KELSEYVILLE >> While the Lower Lake High School defense was busy concentrating its efforts on stopping Kelseyville running back Adrian Villalobos, the other half of the Knights’ formidable one-two punch, Jordi Lopez, was doing his thing.
Lopez rushed for 134 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown in a 33-16 victory over the Trojans in North Central League I junior varsity football action on Friday night at Kelseyville. The victory keeps the Knights perfect in league play at 5-0 and bumps their overall record to 6-1.
Lower Lake’s efforts to stop Villalobos were only partially successful. While the Trojans limited him to 46 rushing yards, he still scored two touchdowns – one rushing and one receiving. Kelseyville also picked up rushing scores from Joey Mendonca and Robert Chavez.
“We played a solid game against a good team,” Kelseyville coach Jeremy Linnell said. “We just kept hammering away, chipping away at them. The defense played really well.”
Kelseyville had a 14-0 halftime advantage and was leading 24-0 before Lower Lake finally scored.
Mendonca and Lukaz Molinero were among Kelseyville’s leaders on defense. Mendonca led the way with five tackles, two assists, three tackles for losses and one sack while Molino had three solo tackles, three assists and two tackles for losses. Shawn Beverlin and Audie Navarro picked off Lower Lake passes.
Kelseyville returns to action Friday at home against St. Vincent while Lower Lake hosts Clear Lake. Kickoff for both games is 5:30 p.m.
