LAKEPORT >> A contract for another aspect of the Starview and Bonanza Springs water system repair project was awarded at the Lake County Board of Supervisors’ regular meeting on Tuesday.
The bid — worth nearly $1.65 million — was given to Rapid Construction Inc. so it can replace the distribution system in the northern part of the Starview District that was damaged by the Valley Fire. It will also install in both districts a total of 45 fire hydrants.
According to Special Districts Administrator Jan Coppinger, the bid originally exceeded the costs expected by the project’s funding agencies like FEMA. Yet, by consulting agency’s representatives and the county’s insurance provider they were able to make sure the funding would be there.
“Staff received confirmation of that and the ability to proceed with awarding the project the last week of September,” Coppinger said in a staff report.
The contract for the Carson City company was unanimously approved, 5-0. Another part of the repair project — the replacement of about 200 water meters — was approved in August. Fully funded by previously mentioned insurance company, the project cost $571,000.
Special Districts also applied for a $6.4 million grant to the State Water Resources Control Board for a complete overhaul of the old Soda Bay Water System.
EaRTH appointments
The BOS also approved the five appointments to District 3’s East Region Town Hall, or EaRTH.
Of the six total applicants, three were chosen by their respective associations: Robert Hendrickson from the Spring Valley Property Owners Association (POA), Heather McFadden of the Clearlake Oaks Keys POA and James Burton of the Clearlake Oaks Business Association.
The other three were at-large applications, representing the other areas of Northeast Lake County. Two selected were former Clearlake City Councilwoman Denise Loustalot and Michael Herman. Meanwhile, Richard Kuehn was left out of the District 3 Supervisor Jim Steele’s recommendation.
“Richard is already on the [Clearlake Oaks] Water District Board,” he said. “They were all qualified … someone had to not be picked.”
After very little discussion, his endorsements were unanimously approved, 5-0.
