ST. HELENA >> It’s not exactly the kind of schedule Middletown High School varsity volleyball coach Jennifer Breiner had envisioned for her week.

The Mustangs were on the road Tuesday night, making the long haul to Fort Bragg to play an improved Timberwolf club that beat Middletown 25-13, 25-23, 25-6 in North Central League I action. Breiner said she wasn’t thrilled with her team’s play, and the long trip to and from the Mendocino County coast made it a long night for everyone involved.

One day later the Mustangs were back on the road, this time to play the St. Helena Saints in a match that was scheduled for Thursday but moved up a day.

“I wasn’t real happy about that,” Breiner said.

The Mustangs had another tough night, falling 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 to the Saints despite five kills and two aces from Amy Hermann and four kills from Olivia Glosser.

Middletown drops to 3-9 in the league standings while St. Helena, currently third in the NCL I standings behind Kelseyville (11-0) and Clear Lake (10-1), improves to 9-3.

St. Helena also won the junior varsity match, beating Middletown in three sets (scores were not reported).

Middletown closes out its season next week with home matches against Kelseyville (Tuesday) and Cloverdale (Oct. 27). JV action both nights begins at 5 p.m.
