CLEARLAKE >> With the vote on California’s Proposition 64 approaching, the Clearlake Planning Commission appointed two representatives to the city’s Medical Marijuana Ad Hoc Committee at its regular meeting earlier this week.
According to City Manager Greg Folsom, the agency appointed commissioners Carl Webb and Cheryl Hutchinson. Russ Cremer was also considered, Folsom said, but due to his availability schedule Webb was eventually selected for the board.
“Carl has a law enforcement background,” he added. “He had a little more flexibility.”
The selections now made, the committee will meet in the next few weeks to prepare for the possibility of Prop. 64 passing. If it does, as expected, the vote would make recreational marijuana use legal.
Recent poll numbers indicate that a majority of the state’s voters support the measure. Legalization for recreational use carries implications for medical marijuana, including tax structure and cost, that are still being debated.
Clearlake’s dispensary owners will also be invited to the meeting. However, only one of them, Liz Byrd of Lakeside Herbal Solutions, is on the committee.
