Even as we falter

Galilee Lutheran Church

Lay leaders: Kristy Weiss, John Stierna

Three years ago, Galilee embarked on a great adventure. We began a ministry of lay ministry, a congregation led by our own members without the benefit of an ordained minister. We had no idea how that would work out, or if we could even exist on our own. But God is good and keeps His promises! We discovered that we are not on our own, after all.

This Sunday we look at Paul’s statement that we should run the good race to the end, remaining faithful even as God remains faithful. The past three years have certainly felt like a race — sometimes a sprint, sometimes a marathon. But as the race continues, we recommit ourselves to reaching the finish line.

It is certainly easy in this situation to praise ourselves, to say (as the rich Pharisee in today’s Gospel lesson says), “I thank God that I am not like these other people.” But we would rather repeat the words of the tax collector, “Be merciful to me, a sinner.” We remember that the past is not due to our own efforts and successes, but to the mercy of a God who loves us even when we falter. And oh, how we can falter.

We invite all to join us in this great adventure! Sunday service is at 10 a.m., with Tuesday night Bible Study at 7 p.m.

Galilee Lutheran is located at 8860 Soda Bay Road, just 1/4 south of what we hope will one day be Konocti Harbor Inn.
