UPPER LAKE >> Rebecca Garner and Stephanie Macias took turns assisting on each other’s goals Friday afternoon but the Upper Lake Cougars came up short in a 3-2 non-league loss to South Fork in girls soccer action at Upper Lake High School.

Macias scored midway through the second half to knot the score at 2-all. South Fork came back to take the lead for good four minutes later.

The Cubs led 1-0 at halftime.

“It was a good, hard played game,” Upper Lake coach Mandy Robbins said. “We played really well, worked together as a team.”

Defensive standouts for the Cougars (3-12-1) were Miranda Huntley and Chelsie Valdez, according to Robbins.

Upper Lake has two regular-season games remaining. The Cougars host Technology on Monday at 4:30 p.m. and Calistoga next Friday at 4:30 p.m.

At Upper Lake, Alverto Solano scored midway through the first half for Upper Lake’s lone goal in a non-league loss to Stony Point Academy of Santa Rosa.

“We had quite a few opportunities but not a lot of quality shots,” Upper Lake coach Kevin O’Brien said. “We really struggled in possession and had too many turnovers. We beat ourselves a little bit today.”

Solano’s goal cut Stony Point’s lead to 2-1 at halftime.

Upper Lake drops to 1-12 overall.

The Cougars close out their season next week with an away game Wednesday against Mendocino at 4:30 p.m. and a home game Friday against Roseland Collegiate Prep at 4:30 p.m.
