KELSEYVILLE >> Undefeated in league play and the undisputed North Central League I boys soccer champions three years running, the Kelseyville Knights beat Middletown 8-1 on a rainy Tuesday at Kelseyville High School.

Victor Cacho scored three times and also had three assists as the Knights improved to 10-0-3 in the league standings. They close out the regular season Tuesday in Lakeport against the winless Cardinals (0-11-2), then it’s off to the North Coast Section playoffs next week.

“Hopefully we can go a little farther this season,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said with an eye to the postseason where the Knights have lost in the first round each of the past two seasons.

Sergio Arias added two goals and an assist for the Knights, who had to battle the elements as well as the Mustangs (3-8-2).

“The field was soaking wet and it was raining most of the game,” Ledesma said. “There was standing water in some spots.”

The weather came into play almost right away as an Arias shot, which the Middletown keeper appeared to have a bead on, slipped off of his hands and ended up in the net for a 1-0 Knights lead.

Kelseyville led 4-1 at the half.
