MENDOCINO >> Upper Lake’s Josh Williams scored early in the second half to knot the game at 1, but the Mendocino Cardinals pulled away and beat the Cougars 5-1 in North Central League II boys soccer action on Wednesday afternoon in Mendocino.
Alverto Solano assisted on Williams’ goal, one of the very few highlights for Upper Lake (1-13) in the game.
“We were letting guys dribble right by us,” Upper Lake coach Kevin O’Brien said of a less-than-adequate defensive effort by the Cougars in the second half.
Mendocino led 1-0 after the first half.
Upper Lake closes out its league and season schedule on Friday with a home game against Roseland Collegiate Prep of Santa Rosa at 4:30 p.m.
