UPPER LAKE >> Upper Lake quarterback Derek Pritchard hit wide receiver Eddie Crandell Jr. on a 2-yard slant pass with 1:30 remaining to give the Cougars a 42-38 win over Laytonville in a North Central League III football thriller on Friday night in Laytonville.

It was the season finale for both teams. Upper Lake finishes up at 4-3 in league play and 5-4 overall.

The Cougars were prepared to hand the ball off to fullback Jacob Kalawaia before Pritchard called an audible at the line of scrimmage and connected with Crandell for his third touchdown catch of the game, an Upper Lake record for eight-man football.

Upper Lake led 20-14 at halftime but trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half.
