WILLITS >> Touchdown runs by Bryan Carillo and Patrick Mick in the fourth quarters sealed Kelseyville’s 28-6 victory over the Willits Wolverines in North Central League I varsity football action on Friday night in Willits.
No rain fell during the game but field conditions were poor, according to Kelseyville head coach Erick Larsen.
“It was a bog out there,” Larsen said of the sticky mud that made footing difficult for both teams.
Kelseyville (5-2 league, 7-2 overall) had a 14-0 halftime lead. Willits drove nearly the length of the field during a time-consuming drive in the third quarter but lost the ball on downs. Kelseyville then fumbled the ball right back to the Wolverines (1-6), who scored early in the fourth quarter to make it 14-6.
Carillo’s 12-yard TD run with 6:43 remaining and Mick’s 29-yard run with 4:32 left put the game out of reach. Mick finished with 120 yards on eight carries.
“Mick ran the ball well,” Larsen said.
Defensive standouts were tackle Nick Melero and lineman/linebacker Aaron Teal, according to Larsen.
“Nick Melero played his heart out,” Larsen said. “He embraced getting dirty and getting low.”
Santiago Olea and Logan Barrick scored on short runs in the first half to put the Knights up 14-0.
