Upper Lake >> Sa-Sam Gallery will present a special show of art works for the holiday season opening on Saturday. The show is titled “Buddha’s Upper Lake” and will feature the art of Max Butler, gallery founder.
The works consist of various Buddhist ceramic sculptures, woodcuts, paintings and monotypes. The show means to convey a peaceful realization that can help the viewer get through stressful times, Butler said.
He has been creating spiritual art for more than 40 years. Butler began making Buddhist art from the time in 1980 when he began living at Ewam Choden Tibetan Buddhist Center in Kensington near Berkeley. During the six years that Butler lived at Ewam Choden, he received lessons from many teachers including His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Butler was further exposed to Buddhist art and culture when in 1984 he traveled to Tibet with his main teacher, the Ven. Lama Kunga Rinpoche. As a Buddhist practitioner he dedicates the production of his art for the benefit of humanity and the life force, Butler said.
All proceeds from the sale of Butler’s work will go to benefit Lake County charities.
Buddha’s Upper Lake will run from Saturday until Saturday until Dec. 31. A reception for the show will be from 1 until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The gallery is located at 9495 #9 Main St. in Upper Lake, California. Hours are Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. For more information call (707) 275-9435.
