Reformation

Galilee Lutheran Church

Lay leader Bob Hamilton

Reformation Sunday this year, October 30th, begins the “Year of Being Constantly Re-Formed,” the Lutheran Church’s celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. On this date in 1517, Martin Luther nailed his “95 Theses” to the church door in Wittenburg, Germany, setting off a revolution in the Christian Church. From this simple act of theological questioning, the Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Four-Square and Baptist churches, among others, took life. The “protesters” became “Protestants” and life (whether religious, political, economic, or scientific) hasn’t been the same since.

In fact, every 500 years or so the church reinvents itself in a major way. This is significant in that this year we consider how the Christian church is re-making itself today. Reformation doesn’t happen just once, for all time. It is a continual process for our churches, for our world, and for us as individuals.

We invite everyone to visit us this Sunday at 10 a.m. to begin our year-long exploration of Luther’s life and its meaning for us today. Galilee Lutheran is located at 8860 Soda Bay Road in the Kelseyville Rivieras.
