On Wednesday, Oct. 26, Cheryl Hart, with Supporting Mamas, and Charisse Feldman, a Public Health Nurse with Santa Clara County’s Maternal Child and Adolescent Health program, drove to Lakeport from Santa Clara County to deliver items collected for families of new babies and toddlers who suffered losses due to the Clayton fire. Supporting Mamas is a program providing information and support to expectant and new mothers in the South Bay area.

A small truckload containing baby furniture and equipment, diapers, formula, clothing and more arrived at the of Mother-Wise office at 180 N Main in Lakeport and were met by Jaclyn Ley, Director of Mother-Wise, Lily Barry, the Home Visiting Coordinator, and several others representing local agencies who greeted the visitors and helped unload the truck. If materials collected go beyond the needs of fire survivors, Mother-Wise will disburse them to others in the community.

Like the Santa Clara group, Mother-Wise has programs and information to support new moms and expecting moms throughout Lake County. These include a weekly support group for moms, infants and toddlers, a home visiting program and monthly pot-luck theme parties for families with babies and volunteers.

Families looking for donations can call Mother-Wise to inquire, (707) 349-1210. Donations will be given out on a first come first serve basis to Clayton Fire survivors.
