LAKEPORT >> The Lakeport City Council gave its final approval to change five speed zones in the area and remove parking along Bevins Street at its regular meeting Tuesday.

According to Councilwoman Mireya Turner, the discussion of both items was simple and straightforward. There were some concerns regarding the bump on 20th street to 30 mph, but the council eventually approved it because the Lakeport Police Department is now aware of the chronic speeding there and will increase its presence in the area.

“It’s a pretty dense residential area. It creates some visual issues,” Turner said. “Now that law enforcement is aware of it, hopefully people will slow down.”

Both ordinances were approved unanimously.

Changes also were approved on Parallel Drive south of the roundabout, Martin, Hartley and Main Streets.
