LOWER LAKE >> Middletown and Fort Bragg went head to head during the final cross country dual meet of the high school season and it turned out to be a split decision on Wednesday afternoon at the 2.8-mile Anderson Marsh State Park course in Lower Lake.

Clear Lake and host Lower Lake also participated in the Coastal Mountain Conference meet as did non-scoring Pacific Union College Preparatory School from Angwin.

Middletown’s and Fort Bragg’s varsity boys entered the meet tied with Cloverdale for first place in the standings and it was Middletown prevailing 27-29. In girls action, both Middletown and Fort Bragg were undefeated entering Wednesday’s run and Fort Bragg scored a big win over the Mustangs, who need to beat Fort Bragg next week in the CMC Championships to have a shot at the title.

“If I had to place money, I thought the girls had a good chance of winning today and I thought the boys would have a tougher time,” Middletown coach Sarah Carlisle said.

Max Whaley of Fort Bragg won the varsity boys race in 17 minutes, 35 seconds and Clear Lake’s Charlie Adams was second in 17:44. The next three finishers were Middletown’s Dimitri Imbrunetti (17:58), Jack Farres (18:09) and Jack Shrive (18:13).

Amelia Wirt won the girls race (times not available) and Lower Lake’s Aleia Milano was third.
