WILLITS >> The Middletown Mustangs certainly handled their end of the deal Friday night with a 69-0 victory over the Willits Wolverines, but they didn’t get the help they were hoping for from the Kelseyville Knights, who lost a 21-20 nail-biter to the undefeated Fort Bragg Timberwolves.
As a result, Middletown closes out its North Central League I schedule at 7-1, good for second place in the final standings behind 8-0 Fort Bragg. Both teams move on to next week’s North Coast Section Division V playoffs, presumably as high seeds.
“We had 10 touchdowns scored by nine players,” Middletown coach Bill Foltmer said. “I think that’s pretty incredible.”
Quarterback Luke Holt might have had the best night of all. He completed all five of his passes, four of them for touchdowns, including two to receiver Robbie Carey, who had three catches for 78 yards. Ty Chorjel and Gabe Guzman also caught touchdown passes.
