LAKEPORT >> Jeramy Michael Isom, 19, entered not guilty pleas to all counts during a court hearing last week. Isom is charged with Gross Vehicular Manslaughter (Intoxicated), Gross Vehicular Manslaughter with Vessel While Intoxicated, Vehicular Manslaughter (Gross Negligence), and two counts of DUI (Alcohol While Causing Injury) related to an October accident that caused fatal injuries to a passenger.
The incident occurred on Morgan Valley Road just west of Bonham Road. According to CHP officer Glen Thomas, Isom was driving east on Morgan Valley when he allowed the vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, to drift across the lane. When he attempted to yank the SUV back, it toppled and began to roll.
Isom was treated for abrasions before being placed into custody. A passenger suffered abrasions and a third complained of pain but did not require treatment. A second passenger, however, died from his injuries.
Thomas indicated in his initial media statement that the man who died was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident. The driver and remaining passengers were wearing seat belts and no other vehicles were involved.
Isom appeared in court, in custody, with Defense Attorney Thomas Quinn. Being there is a large amount of discovery needed, this matter is set for Disposition or Setting of Preliminary Examination today at 8:15 a.m.
Judge Stephen Hedstrom presided over the Plea Entry Hearing and Deputy District Attorney Rachel Abelson was present in court as well.
Isom enters a plea of not guilty to all counts and denies the special allegations.
The defendant is ordered to be present.
