LAKEPORT >> The court this week ordered Derrick Kyle Schuleter, 24, be confined and treated at Porterville Development Center before further hearings.

On July 29 as firefighters quelled a morning blaze off 18th Avenue in Clearlake. According to reports, an unauthorized man was using the emergency radio in the medic unit. Firefighters then discovered an ambulance parked near the scene of the fire was missing.

Officers traced the ambulance using a cell phone left inside the vehicle by one of the firefighters.

Schuleter was picked up near the ambulance with items from the ambulance in his possession, and he allegedly admitted to the theft.

During the Placement Hearing, the Court stated that if the defendant has not been transported to the Porterville Development Center by November 29, the Executive Director of the Center is ordered to inform the court in writing prior to that date on what date compliance is expected.

The court also found that the maximum term of imprisonment provided by law for the most serious offense charged in the felony complaint is four years. At the end of three years from the date of commitment, if the defendant has not become mentally competent, he shall be returned to the committing court.

The Court received the placement recommendation from Redwood Coast Regional Center.

This matter is continued to November 29, at 8:15 a.m. for Review if Transported Hearing in Department Four. The defendant was not ordered to be present if he has been transported.
