People will choose to smoke

I just read Jacqueline Baranzini’s bizarre letter on me & I have to point out some errors she made. She called me self-centered when clearly I’m not the only one who does not want to pay more taxes while she practically tells her life story. I’m sorry about her losing her husband & what she has gone through. Those were choices they made just like everybody else who has walked that walk.

She asks “What about the young people who smoke?” but may be unaware that you have to be 21+ to buy tobacco in California, so those young people under 21 are breaking the law and it’s nobody’s business what a 21+ person chooses to buy. Also how does she know how much money anyone has? Those young people who choose to smoke will still smoke. It’s been like that since the beginning of time.

Lastly in her last paragraph, she says “Mr. Bogdanov you say vote yes on this prop, because this is will bring more tax money for the state and county “SO” Mr. Bogdanov, take a nap”. She did not read that I said this for Yes on 64, not 56. So I think I’ll stay up for awhile instead of napping.

I’m also glad Ms. Baranzini has all her activities to do and feels better.

Thanks

We thank Lakeport’s residents for their confidence in response to Measure Z and look forward continuing our efforts to address our community’s service needs.

No wall

Mac McKay must know what national pride is. Trump has already met with the President of Mexico and was told that Mexico would NOT pay for a wall. Mexico would go into complete financial ruin before they would bow down to a bully from another country. Trump would have to invade Mexico to get them to pay for the wall he wants to build.

If Mac can’t see this then he is deluding himself.

A tremendous undertaking

Congratulations to the winners of the 2016 Lake County General Election. I applaud the efforts of the District 1 and District 4 candidates for Supervisor and all the candidates who ran for City Council seats in Lakeport and in Clearlake. Speaking from personal experience, running for office is a huge undertaking; I appreciate and admire the willingness of each candidate to serve our Lake County communities.

In District 1, I’d like to congratulate and thank my opponent, Moke Simon, for running a positive campaign. Although the November 8, 2016 election results are not yet final, my opponent was the top vote getter on Election Day. Congratulations.

I also wish to thank my family, friends, Lake County residents, business organizations and the Lake County agriculture community for supporting my candidacy. It has been truly humbling to earn the support of so many people.

Finally, I would also like to ask all of us to remember the fire devastated communities of Lake County this holiday season. They need our continued support, donations and help to recover and rebuild. The Lower Lake Clayton Fire survivors especially need our assistance.

Again, thank you to all my campaign supporters for your vote, your confidence and your passion for Lake County.

Monica Rosenthal, Candidate District 1 Supervisor, Middletown

Big job ahead

If, as has been said, it is true that “God takes care of drunkards, fools, and The United States”, then, truly, Her work is cut out for Her now.

Protest vs terrorism

Protesting should be about freedom of speech .

The people who riot and damage property should be treated as terrorists

I am hopeful that our new President will make some needed change.

Ignoring reality

In response to Craig Stankiewicz’ letter of Thursday Nov. 10, this country is a nation, not a social experiment, I agree. As citizens, we collectively agree that our environment is something we all share. Our groundwater, our air, our forests and agriculture need protection. We all need to maintain it for future generations and preserve the gains that have been made over the last ten years or so.

To have the Federal government step in now and rein in California’s environmental regulations would be devastating. Trump claims to “unleash” resources to exploit them: If the tax breaks for industry are eliminated, we may not be able to keep our economy as sustainably-based as it is now. Since the president-elect does not believe in global warming, saying in regard to weather extremes that “it’s just called weather,” he reveals his choice to ignore reality. Selling off public goods, resources and drilling rights will cause damage that can not be reversed. Drilling for the sake of drilling as our potential Interior Secretary is noted for promoting is selling off public resources for a short-term gain and cannot be recovered-ever.

The “pioneering spirit” we now need to gather up around us is an unyielding commitment to make our nation inclusive and sustainable, regardless of differences on the surface that divide us. Since our President Elect Trump has no platform in place, the public expects him to act with prudence as he uses caution in his actions.
