LAKEPORT >> John David Heglin, a 57-year old Sonoma County resident, entered a plea of no contest to a charge that he failed to register as a sex offender, when accepting work in Lake County.
Heglin appeared in court for his Sentencing Hearing with Defense Attorney Evan Zelig as Judge Andrew Blum presided over the matter.
Blum ruled that in the court’s judgement Heglin is guilty of a felony violation — failure to register as a sex offender — placed the defendant on formal probation for a period of three years, subject to many terms and conditions.
Heglin was arrested last July by Lake County Sheriff’s Office after learning the defendant was working as a cashier at a Kelseyville grocery. Such employment, some 50 miles from his home, violated parole conditions.
Heglin was under a community supervision program in Sonoma County, which required approval from the county probation department to work outside the area. Heglin had worked in Kelseyville one month before his arrest.
The defendant was remanded to custody of the Lake County Sheriff to complete the jail term imposed. Heglin was ordered to serve 365 days in Lake County Jail, with a total of 160 days credit.
