LOWER LAKE >> Teams from CalRecycle have cleared 89 properties destroyed or damaged by the Clayton Fire, with work set to begin on 52 more.

CalRecycle expects to complete their debris removal program by mid-December. Another 42 lots have been cleared by private contractors.

This was out of some 300 structures — almost two-thirds of them houses — destroyed in the Clayton Fire. Lake County Environmental Health Director Ray Ruminski informed the Board of Supervisors this week of progress recovering from the blaze that ignited on Aug. 13, allegedly set by an arsonist.

Ruminski reported that erosion control and soil sampling will wrap up before the Christmas holiday. Results of several soil samples have been returned, with only one in five requiring further soil removal.

Ten crews from CalRecycle remain detailed to the Clayton Fire cleanup effort.
