LAKE COUNTY >> The name of the MVP has changed during the last nine years, but not the school that MVP calls home.
That would be Middletown High School for those who keep track of such things. The Mustangs have won nine consecutive North Central League I championships in girls soccer and the recently released All-League team reflects Middletown’s dominance again this season, beginning with senior most valuable player Caitlin Lemoine.
Lemoine is one of three Middletown players to earn All-League first-team honors on this year’s squad, which is selected by a vote of the league’s coaches. Three other Mustangs also ended up on the team.
Lake County’s list of first-team players includes Lemoine and teammates Madison Ketchum, a senior, and Gracie Armstrong, a junior. Also named to the first team were Lower Lake’s Estefania Orozco, a senior; Clear Lake juniors Lexi Burke and Regina Faalelea; and Kelseyville junior Kat Brown.
Honored on the All-League second team were Middletown juniors Aly Ferguson and Courtney Gillies; Clear Lake seniors Amelia Perry and Hallie Holmes; Kelseyville senior Christina Covarrubias; and Lower Lake sophomore Jenny Orozco.
Each team was allowed to designate one player as an honorable mention. From Lake County those honorable mentions were Clear Lake junior Brooklyn Jenkins, Kelseyville sophomore Sayra Cacho, Middletown sophomore Kassi Agapoff, and Lower Lake senior Monica Zuniga.
All-NCL II team
The NCL II coaches also released their All-League team and while Lake County has just one school – Upper Lake – competing in that league, the Cougars did have two players honored.
Jazlyn Bonilla, the team’s senior keeper, was honored on the All-League second team. Miranda Huntley, also a senior, received an honorable mention.
The most valuable player award was split between senior Sally Ziemer of NCL II champion Sonoma Academy and senior Yasmine Sutelo of Roseland University Prep, the league runner-up.
