LAKE COUNTY >> The worth of one Victor Cacho to the Kelseyville High School boys soccer program is easily measured. With Cacho sidelined by an injury to open the 2016 season, the Knights went 0-4. When the senior forward returned to the starting lineup, they went 12-1-3 the rest of the way, including 11-0-3 in league play.
Ironically Cacho’s season ended like it began as he was hurt in the Knights’ quarterfinal-round North Coast Section playoff game against Lick-Wilmerding of San Francisco, a game the Knights lost 4-1 at Kezar Stadium to end another magnificent season for coach Eduardo Ledesma and company.
Cacho’s scoring prowess — 35 goals and 17 assists in only 15 games — made him the obvious and easy choice to repeat as the most valuable player on the recently released All-North Central League I boys soccer team as selected by the league’s coaches.
Cacho’s final three high school seasons all had a familiar ring as the Knights won undisputed league championships each year. Their 11-0-3 record this season was their best during the three-year run.
Cacho had all kinds of company on this year’s All-League team, joining six teammates as well as well as six players from Lake County’s other three NCL I entries — Clear Lake, Lower Lake and Middletown.
Other Kelseyville players to earn All-League honors of some sort were first-team selections Sergio Arias and Sam Guzman, both seniors; second-team selections Pedro Hernandez and Jesus Covarrubias, both seniors; and honorable mentions Sebastian Rodriguez, a senior, and Trey Conrad, a junior.
Among the other Lake County teams, Lower Lake had three players honored — senior Gerardo Rodriguez on the first team, senior Jose Martinez on the second team, and junior Angel Ochoa as an honorable mention.
Middletown’s two All-League players are first-team selection Victor Lopez, a senior, and honorable mention Ricardo Chaires, a junior.
Clear Lake’s lone selection was first-teamer Nicholas Holmes, the only freshman honored on this year’s All-League squad.
