We would like to formally welcome Sherry Hoeckendorf, Carle’s new secretary. She grew up and went to school in Houston Texas. Ms. Hoeckendorf graduated high school when she was only 16 and was salutatorian of her class. Sherry thought Carle’ would be a great place to work; she wants to make a difference. Now that she works here she said it is everything she hoped it would be and more. Her husband and son push her everyday to be better. She has been married to the same man for 33 years. She has already become a role model for our students not only as a successful women but also as a loving mother. Welcome to our family.
Our media class designers have just finished what will be their biggest project of the year. We worked closely with Sheriff Brian Martin and Sheriff/Coroner Assistant Gloria Pulido to design special one of a kind designs to thank everyone involved in helping our community during and after the Clayton fire. The class designers led by head designer Samantha Miller made over 100 keychains and countless plaques to thank all the fire departments, firefighters, Red Cross workers, police, chaplains and others who gave so much to our community during these difficult times. We were able to fund our efforts using a generous donation from Dr. Barry Munitz that also brought us a new press in the media room. The press has been lovingly named Barry in his honor and will be working at Carle long after current media teacher Alan Siegel retires. The designers Vanessa Bigelow, Destiny Parlet, Stacie Clement, Briana Legg, Ashton Legg, Jimmy Clemmons, Destiny Blevins, Emily Gregg, Jacob Walker and more, which we will detail next week, have been invited by Sheriff Martin to accompany him on his efforts to disperse all the many thank yous. It was important to us to show our appreciation to these many hard working and wonderful people.
The CHILY winner last week was Tristan Famalaro. He picked a warm blanket. Congrats.
The student of the week last week was Cheyenne West for working so hard at school and always doing her best. The vote by the staff was unanimous. Congratulations.
Credit checks were given last Friday, which marks the halfway point of the third grading period. The staff at Carle gives out grades and credits 12 times a year, 6 in the form of report cards and 6 as credit checks. What that means is that students have their transcripts in hand throughout the year to monitor their own progress and make sure they are achieving their goal of graduation.
Principal Koehler had a nice surprise for the students and staff of Carle’ High School. Last Friday on November 18th she asked student and staff to write what they were thankful for on sticky notes and put them on a big sheet of butcher paper which will then be laminated and proudly hung in the library. It was really fun to do and heartwarming to see.
