LAKEPORT >> Lake County lost a true sportsman with the sudden death of Mike Stevenson of Lakeport.

Stevenson, 74, died Nov. 22 while on a hunting trip in Nebraska. Prior to arriving in Nebraska, he went hunting in Nevada and bagged a trophy mule deer buck.

Stevenson served as Lakeport’s city engineer for 25 years before retiring. Hunting and fishing were his passion and his duck boat could be seen almost daily during the duck hunting season at the Library Park boat ramp in Lakeport. He owned 11 boats and more than1,000 duck decoys. He also had an abundance of hunting and fishing gear. Stevenson belonged to a deer hunting club near Willits.

In addition to his passion for hunting and fishing, Stevenson, a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club in Lakeport, was a protector of the environment.

A memorial service for Stevenson will be held after the holidays at a date to be determined.
